David Jones - Room 216
My work for the past two years has been made with picture puzzles. I seek jigsaw puzzles as to their mutual fit and imagery. The optimal goal is assembling two puzzles side by side to completion and then mix the two images into new ones which are weighted equally, not sacrificing one to the other.
Parts of each puzzle are shifted one to another creating a new image with no alteration to fit. Resolving each demands change and rearrangement of not only individual pieces but also those immediately surrounding the first moved. Curiously, the placing and replacing of pieces is much like painting with the individual strokes, marking erasing, and repainting. This journey toward completion is akin to painting with its beginning, first resolution, destruction, and lastly the final transformation.
