Barbara Maricle - Room 310
In my current work, I use repeated shapes, a meandering line and veils of color to explore opposing states of movement/stillness, rising/settling, and clarity/obscurity.
I use line in a wandering, searching way, indicating movement. Patterning and repetition add structure and can give a meditative quality. The use of ellipses gives a sense of suspension, of gravitational forces pulling from below. I have layered these elements in order to achieve a visual depth. Layering expresses looking back into the past or forward to the future to achieve clearness of mind and vision. The process of that searching is what I find interesting.
Using an active line, veiling layers, and repeated shapes and patterns, my work reveals a method of looking, investigating, discovering; moving in and out of focus and forward and backward in space and time.
