Arminée Chahbazian - Room 303
I am presenting two related bodies of work. Living in an extremely remote, natural place informs my imagery. Forms result from deep investigations into the micro and macro patterns found in nature, along with my observations of the fragility of a shifting environment. Intuitive responses to the materials I choose to use is critical to my process. The drawings are totally unplanned, spontaneous marks made on paper & duralar which are layered together after the individual elements are made, resulting in compositions reminiscent of dynamic, musical impressions. The paintings also evolve in a similar fluid manner, with essential landscape elements and environmental events (sometimes dramatic, sometimes poetic) occupying a critical place in my soul. With a history as a sculptor, I’m keenly aware of spatial relationships, and approach the work as if I’m carving and constructing at the same time.
